The bird cliffs are always a good place to scout for foxes, but we didn’t find any today. We continued sailing towards the glaciers while enjoying the scenery.
When closer to the glacier front, we turned off our engines. We were listening to the sound of the ancient air that came out the surrounding glacier-ice, when a big piece of glacier ice was flipping, turning and falling apart, creating quit some noise and waves. We calmly followed our way maneuvering through the shallow waters in between some small islands.
The eiders and black guillemots were swimming around our zodiacs and the arctic tern’s dove into the water to catch. The arctic terns are record flyers, spending most of their lives in the summer by yearly flying from the Arctic to the Antarctic and back. These remarkable birds aggressively defend their offspring by attacking all that come to close to their nests or chicks.
We spend more the 2,5 hours on the calm and clear water enjoying this scenic and quiet bay. Back on board we enjoyed another tasty diner made by our cook Allen. What a luck we have to be part of such a great experience.
