This year's first full Svalbard expedition with M/S Stockholm. The goal? Wildlife, with a smattering of landscapes and historical huts to add a bit of variety amongst the scouting.
We headed north, finding protection in various fjords while we waited for the weather to co-operate. Waiting to shoot north-east.
The pack ice. Always a highlight on these expeditions, and something the M/S Stockholm does quite well. Spending not just a day in the ice, but weather allowed 2 days, with an overnight parked in amongst the floes.
A surreal experience.
We then headed into the Hinlopen Strait, cruising the bird cliffs of Alkefjellet, while scouting the ice for wildlife.
Successful once again.
Walrus, reindeer, bearded seals, arctic fox, many seabirds, as well as the queen of the arctic, and her little prince of the year as well, were sighted.
Toasting our success with freshly baked Basque cheesecake out on deck in the sunshine, while sipping on Irish coffee prepared for us by the crew.
Views of massive glaciers surrounding us.
Please note: Depending on the lens used for a photo or video shot an animal may appear to be closer than it is. We always follow strict wildlife guidelines to ensure that we do not cause any disturbance.
